If you like clear-as-a-bell chorus sounds, the Corona won't disappoint but, for a different chorus flavour, the Tri Chorus offers a more complex sound that's denser and more static than the standard setting. Both sound good in normal use, but also offer plenty of scope for recording a big stereo sound using both outputs. And if it's subtlety you want, the FX level knob lets you add just a tickle of chorus to your dry sound.

The Corona delivers sweet, tactile chorusing reminiscent of sounds produced by the vintage Stereo Chorus + Pitch Modulator & Flanger. At speeds varying from the slow, ’80s-style chorusing we all know and love, to fast rotary speaker-like effects, the Corona is a quiet and vibey-sounding pedal that makes the chorusing sound completely integrated with whatever you’re playing, as opposed to sounding slathered on. The Tri-Chorus effects are particularly cool when going for a multi-dimensional guitar sound in stereo, as this is where you get the effect of three choruses running simultaneously (with slightly different settings on each), which creates the mesmerizing pitch-bend blur that made the original Tri-Stereo Chorus such a hit.

One of my personal “grail tones” is the Leslie/rotary speaker effect, and one of my favorite practitioners of the art of “B3 Bass” is Roscoe Beck. Naturally, I went straight for Roscoe’s “Sonic String Modulator” TonePrint for the Corona chorus. While I had tried to dial in something like this on my own, this tone was built with forces that were beyond my control. Having beamed the Toneprint into the pedal, I was hooked. The EQ, effect mix, speed, and depth were perfectly tuned to make my 6-string Ken Smith sound like Jimmy Smith. I’d buy this pedal just for that one sound. But the Corona also sounded great in more subtle applications, and there are several excellent artist TonePrints online.

Where some chorus pedals sound plasticky, the Corona is lush without having to really tweak it. Sure, it’s not cheap, but the Tri-Chorus and TonePrint settings are worth it.

Engaging the TriChorus mode adds two more independent choruses to the signal and thickens things up greatly, allowing for some truly huge sounds. Even at extremes of the controls things remained very quiet indeed with no loss of tone.

It sounds great, and if you want to just add some body to your sounda la Guns N Roses era Duff McKagan then you can easily achieve this, just dial in as much of the effect as you want using the FX knob. Of course by tweaking the speed and depth you can also get some wonderful sounds for ballad playing, where those longer notes can sing out. The tri-chorus setting is incredibly lush, with three separate chorus effects working in unison. It’s a doddle to get that traditional singing chorus effect, which will really lift some solo playing.

TC deserves full marks for once again pushing the boundaries of what is possible with today's technology inside a small stand-alone effect pedal.

Corona Chorus provides an organic and fat sound that you would never have believed could come from a digital pedal, and the TonePrint concept is the icing on the cake!

I became a believer after playing Corona Chorus in the Tri-Chorus mode. Full marks and thumbs up. ROCK ON!
